A new era for European space travel has begun: On July 09, 2024 at around 21h (CEST), the Ariane 6 launcher took off from the spaceport in Kourou in French Guiana on its successful unmanned maiden flight into space.
After the last launch of the predecessor launcher Ariane 5 in July last year, this mission means nothing less for Europe than the restoration of independent access to space. Ariane 6 is a further technical development of the Ariane launcher system with the aim of remaining competitive in the global market. In future, the heavy-lift launcher will be used to transport satellites into space for public and commercial customers.
The RST Rostock System-Technik team has been closely involved in this extensive project for years. In addition to our expertise in cable harness design for the aerospace industry, our contribution consisted of various special systems such as work platforms, lifting gear, transportation equipment and test stands (MGSE). This equipment now forms part of the complex infrastructure required for the precise handling of the large Ariane 6 components on the ground.
RST congratulates on the successful first flight of the new launcher! We are proud to have contributed to this milestone in European space travel.
