RST Rostock System-Technik congratulates on the successful launch of the first of a total of three SARah satellites on board a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Space Force in California/USA on June 18, 2022.
For modern armed forces, reliable reconnaissance, communication, and navigation based on satellites is crucial to success. In order to safeguard this capability worldwide and irrespective of the time of day and weather conditions, the German Armed Forces are gradually replacing their old SAR-Lupe reconnaissance system with the new Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite program, known as SARah.
The first satellite launched, SARah-1, is a high-resolution radar sensor developed and manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space under contract to the prime contractor OHB System. The two other passive reflector satellites are to follow into space later this year.
For SARah-1, RST supplied not only systems for mechanical handling of the satellite on the ground and for instrument integration, but also special, functional test equipment and a storage & transport container. The latter not only enabled safe storage, but also the transport of the satellite under clean room conditions on its long journey from Immenstaad via Baltimore to the launch pad in California:
