The challenge
RST Rostock System-Technik has developed and manufactured a multifunctional passenger cabin simulator for the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). The simulator is intended for use in the national centre for flight simulation in aerospace research AVES (Air VEhicle Simulator) in Brunswick, Germany. As a highly modern research platform with a modular design, AVES serves the examination of dynamic interaction between people and airborne vehicles, whereby the focus is laid on transport aircraft, helicopters and new technical configurations. Using the RST cabin, innovative cabin architectures for long-range and wide-bodied aircraft will be examined experimentally.
The solution
In order to stage realistic surrounding factors for tests, the simulator structure was based on a classic aircraft cabin with seat rows, luggage holders, operating elements, displays and air-conditioning. Important additions to the basic equipment include components and systems which enable the DLR specialists targeted research with a view to the development of cabin layouts and functions. Moreover, if required, the module can be assembled onto an existing motion system and used for experimental examinations.
